Although it is not an easy task, it is always recommended to clean the refrigerator at least once a year. This prevents the proliferation of bacteria and germs that can be harmful to people. In addition, this type of bacteria and germs are also responsible for food losing and rotting more quickly, constituting a health risk and substantial damage to the family economy.
Steps to clean the refrigerator inside:
- 1. Make sure you have the right products.
Before starting the cleaning, we must make sure that we have on hand all the implements that we will need, such as: a portable refrigerator or ice box where we can store some of the products that we already had refrigerated , in addition to all cleaning supplies (gloves, cloths, detergent…).
- 2. Take out all the food. Store them for the moment in a portable cooler. Throw away anything that has been damaged or expired.
To perform a deep cleaning, it will be necessary to remove all the products inside. Food that is spoiled should be thrown directly into the trash, since if it is cleaned and put back into the refrigerator, it will contaminate the new, healthy food. Food that is in good condition can be placed in a refrigerated space while cleaning is done.
- 3. Unplug the refrigerator to avoid excessive electrical consumption and overworking of the equipment.
This step is important, because if the cleaning is done with the equipment in operation, we will be straining its capacity, since we will make it work excessively since all the cold it produces will go away. the door. This also translates into greater electrical consumption in addition to the stress created for the equipment.
- 4. Remove all trays and drawers that are removable. Clean the trays.
Shelves, trays, drawers and other removable parts of the equipment must also be emptied. We can clean these parts more comfortably once removed. This will give us additional space to properly clean the inside of the equipment.
- 5. Clean the inside of the refrigerator.
Using the cleaning products recommended for this type of work, we will proceed to clean each of the interior surfaces in detail.
“Do not use abrasive or harsh cleaners such as window sprays, cleaners, flammable fluids, cleaning waxes, concentrated detergents, or cleaners containing petroleum products on plastic parts, coatings interiors and doors”.
Some of the homemade solutions that we can opt for and that are easier to achieve are:
- Hot water, dish soap and lemon.
- Hot water, white vinegar and lemon.
- Bleach diluted in water.
- 6. Allow to air dry well.
Once we have cleaned the entire interior thoroughly, we must let all surfaces dry well. As we have previously disconnected the equipment, we can simply let it dry naturally, leaving the door open so that the air can circulate.
- 7. Reassemble all trays and drawers.
Now all that remains is to reinstall the trays, drawers and other pieces that we have previously removed, placing them in their places.
- 8. Turn the refrigerator back on and let it cool.
We turn on the equipment, giving it enough time to reach the recommended cooling temperature or, failing that, the temperature indicated by the refrigerator configuration.
- 9. Put all the food back in.
Once cold, we can put all the food back in.
